On Amorgos, the island of “The Big Blue”the port of Katapola, since antiquity, has been considered as one of the safest natural port within the Cyclades Islands complex. Due to its strategic position, in the route between East and West, many travelers stopped for shelter and supplies, influencing this way the culture of Amorgos.
The town/port of Katapola, includes the hamlets of “Rahidi” in the middle of the Bay, and “Xilikeratidi” in the left, where visitors can find beautiful cafes and restaurants by the water, with very good Greek food, while enjoying the tranquility of the clear blue sea, and the amazing landscape. Easily accessible in the area, are the beautiful beaches of “Kato Akrotiri”, “Plakes” and “Maltezi”.
The Capital of “Chora” Within a distance of a 7 minute ride, is famous for its traditional architecture, its Venetian Castle, the wind mills, the 40 churches, and the winding small streets with nice shops, cafes and restaurants.A special festival of “The Psimeni Raki” takes place every summer on the 26th of July, when all visitors can taste this traditional local liqueur, made with raki, honey and Amorgos herbs. There is live music and folklore dancers! Everyone is invited to participate!
